Tim Tebow has earned a faithful following of fans who admire (and imitate!) his commitment to his faith.
But Saturday, he received a little constructive criticism from the man who matters most to the religious Denver Broncos quarterback: Jesus Christ.
Well, the wise-cracking Jason Sudeikis on Saturday Night Live version that is.
Sudeikis's Jesus tells Tebow, played by a No. 15 jersey-sporting Taran Killam, to "take it down a notch," in a hilarious locker room-set sketch.
"You need to read the regular playbook," Jesus says – after Tebow explained that the Holy Bible was his go-to guide – and warns he'll be too busy Sunday night to assist in the Broncos vs. Patriots match-up. (The game did end in a New England victory, 41-23.)
In real life, Tebow, 24, was the one dishing out advice.
In response to the Long Island students who were suspended for blocking their high school's hallways while Tebowing on Wednesday, the quarterback – who announced last month that his Tim Tebow Foundation would help build a children's hospital in the Philippines (slated to be completed by 2013) – stayed true to his do-good nature.
"You have to respect the position of authority and people that God's put as authority over you," Tebow told FOX Sports. "So that's part of it and just finding the right place and the right time to do things is part of it, too."
He adds: "But I think it does show courage from the kids, standing out and doing that."
