Elba, 39, won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie for Luther, a BBC series about a troubled detective.
He's already been named one of PEOPLE's sexiest men of the year, but after picking up a trophy at the Globes, we have a feeling he's only going to get hotter. Get to know more about the London-born actor:
1. He's not a bad guy, he just plays one on TV
Elba is perhaps best known for the role of drug kingpin Stringer Bell on HBO's The Wire. Playing a ruthless figure made him popular with both women and men, resulting in what Elba referred to as "Stringer mania."
"Bad guys are attractive to women period, and most are not afraid to admit that," Elba told PEOPLE. "Guys respond to his stealth, his ruthlessness, and the way the man calculates every situation."
2. He's a softie when it comes to his daughter
While he may have a knack for playing tough guys, he's anything but around his little girl, Isan. He and ex-wife Dormowa Sherma welcomed their daughter in 2002. Isan lives in Atlanta, so Elba splits his time between that city and his native Britain.
"My daughter brings me lots of joy, seeing her grow and relate to me and learn – that is a lot of joy, man," Elba told PEOPLE. "She gets me very emotional and happy, my little momma."
3. His other job is deejaying
Before Elba broke into acting, he was a popular London deejay. He continues to spin under the name "Big Driis the Londoner." While his night job adds to his allure with the ladies, he cautions, "Never date a DJ or an actor. There are too many women around them."
4. He can cook too!
While he has proclaimed himself a "nightmare" to be in a relationship with, he still knows the way to a woman's heart is through her stomach. His idea of a great date is cooking.
"I'm pretty decent," he told PEOPLE of his culinary skills. "I like spices and I like experimenting with stuff. I love rice and vegetables but I love meat, spicing up meats."
5. He loves being naked
While Elba wears a suit well (Case in point: His recent Essence cover), he prefers to go sans clothes. When PEOPLE asked him what he feels most comfortable in, he responded, "My birthday suit!"
"It causes trouble walking down the street. But my birthday suit is my most comfortable," he said. "I wear my birthday suit at home, in the bath or in the shower. Yeah, I'm pretty comfortable in my skin that way."
