A 2.1-metre New Zealand man is being deported from Australia after the Government deemed his height an "unacceptable threat to the national interest".

At 200 kilogram Hayden Harlem Tewao was deemed a risk factor because of his "exceptionally large" size according to the Immigration Minister Chris Bowen.

Mr Tewao had his visa cancelled after he committed a violent armed robbery in 2010 that broke a man’s nose and left him with facial fractures, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The Australian Administrative Appeals Board overturned the deportation, describing Mr Tewao as a "gentle" giant and were impressed by his love of opera and “soft... insightful” manner.

"He is a huge man, 26 years old, with shoulders like buttresses and legs like pylons. His hands, as fists, resemble demolition balls," the Appeals Board said in its findings.

"Yet Mr Tewao, or Tiny as he is known, seems for all his mountainous bulk a gentle man."

However, Mr Bowen intervened in the process and ensured Mr Tewao would be deported after deeming him a threat to the national interest.

The Federal Court has reaffirmed the Minster's decision to deport Mr Tewao in a ruling today.
